Yisunsin Cup

Distinguished guests, esteemed athletes and officials from home and abroad, it is a pleasure to welcome you all.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations on the opening of the 19th YISUNSIN CUP International Yacht Race, an event eagerly awaited by the sailing community. As Korea’s premier keelboat yacht race and a true festival for sailors, this competition has earned its reputation and tradition over the years through the passion and dedication of countless yachting enthusiasts and has played a leading role in shaping and advancing Korea’s sailing culture.

Through this event, both Gyeongsangnam-do and Tongyeong City have steadily strengthened their competitiveness in professional sports and expanded the foundation of recreational sports. As a result of these efforts, Tongyeong has achieved a remarkable milestone by being selected as a host port for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in March 2026. This meaningful achievement demonstrates that Tongyeong is truly emerging as a world-class maritime city.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Governor Park Wan-soo of Gyeongsangnam-do, Mayor Chun Young-gee of Tongyeong, Chairwoman Bae Do-soo of the Tongyeong City Council, Congressman Jeong Jeom-sig, and all those who have generously supported and shown great interest in the preparation of this event. I also extend my sincere appreciation to Chairman Jung Won-joo of the Gyeongsangnam-do Sailing Federation and all involved for their tireless efforts in organizing and operating this race under challenging circumstances.

I look forward to seeing the YISUNSIN CUP International Yacht Race continue to grow as a world-class sporting event, and for Tongyeong City to further develop as a central hub for marine sports.

Throughout the whole race, I sincerely hope for favorable weather and steady winds. May all participating athletes give their very best and compete without regrets, fully demonstrating their skills and passion.
